Light it Up Blue for Autism Awareness Blog Hop

Hello!  And welcome to my stop on the Light It Up Blue for Autism Awareness blog hop.

This hop was organized by Autism Moms and Blackbelt Cardmakers Veronica Zalis and Tenia Nelson.  They put the idea out on Facebook a few weeks ago and got over 200 participants and a whole lot of sponsors!  So first I'll share my Autism story, then the card I made, then my blog candy, then I'll link you back to Veronica who's got the master list of hoppers and sponsors.

This is my little boy Willie.  He tolerates grocery shopping because of this aisle right here :)  We recognized there was a problem when he was 18 months old and not imitating or making attempts to talk.  Once we started the process it was meetings, evaluations, and the awful waiting for the appointment with the developmental pediatrician to get the diagnosis.  Getting the diagnosis is horrible, but it opens the door to services and slowly but surely you see progress.  Currently he is in first grade in an Autistic Support classroom in a public school.  It's an ABA program (Applied Behavior Analysis).  He's still non verbal and using an iPad with the ProLoQuo2go app as a communication device.  This picture was taken awhile ago.  He no longer rides in the cart and wears the iPad messenger bag style.

So on to the card!

Building around the blue theme for Autism Awareness Day I wanted to use this clipboard die.  In Willie's classroom they are taking data all day and the kids move from one thing to the next with their clipboards.  I think I will make a variation of this card at the end of the school year as a teacher thank you!

Blog candy - stamps!!!

I'm giving away the Technique Tuesday Real Story stamp set.  I will do a random draw from comments left here.  Since this is such a big hop I'll keep the comments open for 2 weeks, ending 4/16.  I'll announce the winner here on my blog and also email the winner, so if I can't click through to you from your comment please let me know how to find you.

Now please head back to Veronica and check out all of the great sponsors and of course the other hoppers.  You will find many great cards and even more blog candy!

Thanks for stopping by!

Supplies:  Studio Calico patterned papers; Tim Holtz sticky foil; Technique Tuesday My Sun and Moon Stamps; Technique Tuesday Clipboard die

Willie is adorable! I loved reading your story. My kids have made amazing progress but man I wish the iPad had been around in the early years before they were able to communicate (probably would have ended up being bitten fewer times, lol)
