Get Sketchy #13

I'm playing along with Get Sketchy again this week, and breaking in some blog candy from the fabulous Amy T, these wonderful Sassafras stamps that just might help me use up some of the Sassafras papers I'm hoarding. Thanks so much, Amy! These are a lot of fun and I have nothing like them.

Supplies: Speckletone Badera Beach cardstock; Sassafras Punctuation Plus stamps; Sassafras Amplify patterned papers.

Tuesday Trigger

Wow! Cath picked my inspiration piece for this week's Tuesday Trigger!

I submitted this the first week of this challenge feature on the Moxie Fab blog. Inspiration challenges are my favorite kind and while I have a big, fat folder of magazine clippings I don't have a whole lot bookmarked on my computer so I had to look around a little to find this one. Isn't it funny that Cath wrote that I call the Vintage Findings kits cardmakers crack? But its true! Every week I get the Michaels coupon and I'm telling myself "No, no, don't go you don't need anything... well, OK, just go get one of the little kits to get you through the week." lol! So this card came together pretty quick thanks to my crack and a Panera Bread sleeve. And the sentiment is from the Cornish Heritage Farms set Classic Essential Expressions.

I can't wait to see who plays along with my challenge. And if you like this kind of thing Cath is taking submissions through the end of December. You should submit one, too.

Queen for a Day

Here is a little money/gc holder card I made using stamps from A Royal Birthday. Its no secret that I love to give/receive money as a gift!

The card measures 4" x 4" and what I did was score a 4" x 10" piece of cardstock at 2", then 6", then trimmed and border punched the front flap. The card doesn't stand up on its own since the front flap is shorter. For the inside pocket I just ran a little tombo up the sides to seal the edges and still allow a pocket.

Supplies: CHF A Royal Birthday rubber stamps; CHF Simply Smooth Vanilla cardstock; Making Memories Paperie patterned paper; Prima ribbon; Prima bling; EK Success Embossed Curve punch

Tuesday Trigger

Week 3 of the Moxie Fab Tuesday Trigger. Kim Crawford submitted these over-the-top fantastic carved pumpkins for us to be inspired by this week. My pumpkins are taking the week after halloween off, but I loved the lacy cutwork and the pale green/cream/butter/orange color combo.

I broke in my new Martha Stewart Around the Page Scallop punch (sorry I couldn't find a direct link) for this. I missed out on the loopy punch when it first came out. My 2 big box craft stores sold out and never restocked. However they just got in a few new styles so I bought this one right away. I'm one of those people who had problems with some of her punches in the past. I found that the detailed ones would not cut through cardstock, and chewed up thin paper. Once I found the right paper weight I had trouble with getting the embossing to look even. Over the summer my local photography shop, which has a small scrapbooking section, had a scrapbooking garage sale with proceeds to benefit the SPCA and I unloaded all of my "problem" punches. But I'm happy to say that this around the page thing works great!

So once I punched out my rectangle it reminded me of a placemat that you'd see in a diner. I got my mugs and cake stand from Cornish Heritage Farms The Cafe and colored them pale green to look like Fire King Jadite. The patterned paper is from Making Memories.

Silhouette Train

It's release day at Cornish Heritage Farms for a new stamp set in the B&O Railroad line, Silhouette Train. I don't know if you'd call this making patterned paper or just repeat stamping. I love the train! And the ticket is so detailed and authentic looking. This set is great for guy cards, or kids cards if you want to go colorful with it. The little postage stamp and raffle ticket are from a Making Memories Vintage Findings kit. The sentiment is from CHF's Classic Essential Expressions.

My Crafty Planner

I've been eyeing up this binder for quite awhile now and to be honest I never bought it because it was just too expensive. But a few weeks ago I spotted it in the clearance area for under $5 and it made its way home with me.

Here's what it looks like all closed up. I liked the translucent cover, brown spine, and light blue elastic band. Liked the D ring inside. Didn't like that the rings have a non standard placement so you need to buy a separate Martha punch to get holes in whatever you're putting in the binder. Liked the graph paper booklet inside. Didn't like that it's staple bound and therefore wouldn't lay open flat on the craft table.

I never bought the punch, but I might if it gets moved to clearance for the right price. Instead I exacto cut out one of the sheets of graph paper and used it as a guide for a regular hole punch to punch the papers. And I gave myself permission to de-hoard a good portion of my Cosmo Cricket Girl Friday papers to make some cool dividers for my categories.

I liked the graph paper idea and took some of my own loose leaf graph paper, cut it down, and punched the holes to fit paper in each section. I used my Stampin' Up! tab punch for the tabs.

We don't have a laptop, just a desktop, and it is not in my craft area. I'm going to keep this by the computer to jot down sketches, color combos, and other ideas, and then move the papers out and back in as I need to.

Get Sketchy #12 With a Touch of Plum

Its been awhile since I've played along with the sketch challenges over at Get Sketchy. Its good to be back! I was looking at it this morning and thought about what could be the rectangle in the middle, and right away I realized that I could flip the sketch and use The Bee List along with Sweet Bee. Usually I use red or pink for the accents but I've had plum on the brain from the current Moxie Fab challenge and it looks so much better this way. Purple is the natural opposite of yellow. The border of the Bee List and the little checklist squares are also outlined in plum, though it came out blackish in the photo.

Supplies: Cornish Heritage Farms Sweet Bee and The Bee List stamps; Speckletone cardstock; Tsukineko Memento Tuxedo Black and Grape Jelly ink; Memento and Copic markers
